Bologna (I), was venue to the Ribalta Design evening last Saturday 16 November. The initiative was part of the fringe programme to Open Design Italia – the self-produced and limited edition design event. Fifteen selected designers presented their creations in 5 minutes, giving a personal account from initial idea to finished item.

The jury chose mr.nico and Urge design as joint winners, for the completeness and originality of their projects and attention to all stages of the production ‘chain’.

mr.nico presented a series of carved wooden accessories where a clever folding system shapes 3D pieces with sophisticated yet simple appeal.

Urge design narrated the investigation of form pivoting on physics notions behind communicating vessels, leading to development of three different sets of borosilicate glass carafes.

A special mention went to Elena Ascari, who presented her Temporary Italian Culture Heritage water-based tattoos. These gift items for museums and temporary events portray Italian works of art and have already won the D.A.B.3 Design art-shop and bookshop competition.

Instead, the visitors’ choice was FGC Loft: this showroom/carpenter’s workshop by the Cortese brothers featured the small iKubik technological table, with base and dock for iPad and iPhone and speakers with USB port.
