Self-production reloaded
The final synthesis workshop held by Stefano Maffei, Venanzio Arquilla, Barbara Parini, with the participation of Andrea Gianni (Subalterno1) at the Design school of Milan Polytechnic is back. The course will start from Andrea Branzi’s definition of “mass occupation design”, it will then try to delineate the emerging scenarios (self-production, DIY, digital fabrication, advanced fabrication, fabbing, critical design, crowdsourcing…) and to develop a socio.technical critical view aimed at a new design experience.
Guest lecturers will bring their experiences in order to introduce research hypotheses for the final workshop projects: becoming a “designer-enterprise” able to take care of all the activities from the realization to the sale of the object.
The works of last year’s students were published on the main national design magazines and they also participated in Milan Fuori Salone: projects and business strategies, not only in the furniture field (the picture depicts Sestetto, loudspeakers made with several materials by Stefano Ivan Scarascia and Francesco Shyam Zonca).
The course starts on the 9th of October with a lecture on fabbing. Enrico Bassi (Turin Fablab), Francesco Bombardi (Reggio Emilia Fablab), Massimo Menichinelli (openp2pdesign.org), Patrizia Bolzan and Marcello Pirovano (Tecnificio) will be guest lecturers.
